What is passion without a purpose? Comedy is our passion. This time, female veterans are our purpose.
In February, we sat down for a brainstorming session. As we curated We Stand Comedy's mission, one thing was for sure, it included community outreach. Spearheaded by two females, we knew an underrepresented female group would be our focus.
Our Marketing Director, Lexi Lipari found the Guardian House, one of only two female homeless veteran shelters in New York State. After our first visit with the women, we knew we had found our cause.
We Stand for Female Veterans was born, and the work began. Our goals? To raise $10,000 to benefit the Guardian House and repair the transitional housing these homeless female veterans reside in. Also, to bring awareness to the prevalence of female veteran homelessness by producing an evening of comedy.
The standup community in NYC is the best, filled with historical venues and the most talented people. We reached out to a space we love, and to comedians we are huge fans of. The Comedy Cellar's Village Underground got on board, as well as Rick Crom, Carole Montgomery, Pat Brown, Sam Morril, Shuli Egar and a surprise guest!
This has been a challenging yet incredible process, and our most rewarding experience in comedy thus far. We are proud and honored to help bring awareness to this cause. We would like to thank those who have supported us, and especially the women of the house, for letting us into their home and hearts.
They stood for us, let's stand for them.
