Co-Founder & President, Emmys Organics, Inc.

WHAT SHE DOES FOR LOVE: "I love running my company and watching it grow. I am also a total health-nerd and love discovering and creating healthy recipes at home. I am also very active and love yoga, Pilates and long walks outside."

HER STYLE + BEAUTY: "When I'm going to work everyday, I try to mix style with comfort. I am almost always layering on top of my yoga pants! I own my company so I don’t need to dress any particular way. I am big on spandex in general. That being said, I love the opportunity to dress up a bit and put on my fringe booties and some lipstick! I have been really enjoying wearing essential oils as fragrance lately too. There is something really feminine and beautiful about wearing them and I love it. My favorite moisturizer is this night cream from Copper Moon Apothecary in Santa Cruz, CA. It’s called Rose Hips Night Creme. It’s incredibly clean in ingredients and feels amazing on your skin!!!"

HER 2015 GOAL: "Professionally, I want to keep improving my skills in sales and business management to help my company grow! I also want to learn more on the e-commerce side of things. Personally, I am working on adopting a dog that I fell in love with. So, when we officially get her, [I want to be] a good dog owner. I also want to learn more about essential oils and all the things I can do with them."

A LADY SHE ADMIRES: "I have always looked up to Terces Englehart, founder of Café Gratitude. She has grown and changed so much along with her business and has remained so powerful and innovative. I am lucky to call her a friend and I will always admire how she operates in her personal and professional life."

NOMINATED BY: EMILY MASON

WHY SHE'S A LADY GUN: "Sam is a good friend of my older brother and I always admired her throughout the years. Don't be fooled by her sweet, bubbly personality; she is indeed a fierce lady gun. With a passion for healthy living and delicious food, she recognized a gap within the packaged food industry. She was able to channel her energy into creating a perfect recipe for delicious raw and gluten-free macaroons and began her own business: Emmy's Organics."

HER INITIAL REACTION TO HER LADY GUNS NOMINATION: "This is so amazing. I literally teared up when I read Emily’s comment. Its such an honor to have her nominate me especially since she is so smart and such an amazing human being. Thank you so much!"

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF INGREDIENTS: "The inspiration for our company comes from the simplest recipes that make the most delicious and sinful-tasting products. We are all about INGREDIENTS, TRANSPARENCY & TRUST. Short, high quality ingredient lists. Products that taste amazing and make you feel amazing. And a company committed to doing good in the world."

ON HER FAVORITE RECIPE: "My favorite recipe right now comes from my close friend Adria on her blog, Kitchen Leeway. It’s for a chickpea bread called Farinata. It’s so easy to make and SO DELICIOUS. It’s also vegan and gluten-free. Great to take to a potluck dinner! The recipe is HERE."

ON CHALLENGES: "There are too many! I’ve learned so much about myself while growing this business. We’ve made every mistake in the book and we have still been successful. I think the biggest lesson has been to keep a beginner's mind about everything and to not be afraid to make a mistake. There is also a lot out there that can get you down in business. It’s easy to forget why you decided to get into business in the first place. It’s so important to get re-inspired and get back to the love that made you start whatever you’re doing. Harder said than done. But so important."

ON GOING FOR IT: "My main piece of wisdom (which I have to remind myself of constantly) is to JUST GO FOR IT. It’s so easy to over-think things and not follow your dreams. Life is truly short and every day is a gift. So let’s make the most of it!"
