Holistic Health Counselor and Owner/Maker at Ladybird Apothecarie
WHAT SHE DOES FOR LOVE: "By day, I am a video project coordinator and do voiceover work at GE Appliance Park in Louisville, KY. By evening, weekend, and any other time I can fit it in, I'm a holistic health counselor and natural beauty product maker. I love helping people on their path to self-actualization: being the happiest, healthiest, most beautiful and free version of themselves. By late-night, I am a rock and roll singer. I love to rock!"
HER 2015 GOAL: "In 2015 I aim to transition all my professional passion, time, and energy towards my Ladybird products and holistic health counseling practice. It's a big leap for me. I also want to travel as much as possible, and may have a trip cookin' this fall to one of my dream locations, The Strait of Gilbraltar. It's where John and Yoko were married in 1969!"
A LADY SHE ADMIRES: "Professionally and spiritually, I feel very compelled towards the work of Louise Hay. Her book You Can Heal Your Life is a life manual, of sorts, but also a fun and beautiful read! It sheds light on all the dark places people go in their thoughts and personal beliefs and, therefore, in their lives. The title sounds super ethereal and new-agey but it also has really practical insights and activities. This book is what her publishing empire, Hay House Publications, is basically built upon and it's for good reason. Super-empowering, transformative stuff!"
HER INITIAL REACTION TO HER LADY GUN NOMINATION: "I'm thrilled to be nominated as a Lady Gun! I love that you nailed down a name for this phenomenon and feel blessed to be considered one!"
ON HER PASSION: "Natural wellness, holistic self-care, and helping others live their best lives has been my long-time passion, but only in the last six months have I fully committed to making a career out of it! Honestly, I am still in the process of figuring out the logistics! One of the best lessons I've learned along the way is if you truly love something you must make the time and space for it in your life. It could be as simple as carving out time by getting up in the morning an hour earlier. Or it could be as big and brave as quitting your full-time job, or moving back in with your parents to allow yourself the financial freedom to grow something brand new! But it's all about allowing that space and creating your own freedom to do what YOU want to do."
ON RUNNING LADYBIRD APOTHECARIE: "Much of this business and my focus on self-care came about from spending 10 years of my life on the rock and roll scene, singing in a band that is still dear to me, The Ladybirds. Booking shows, touring and all those logistics, practicing multiple times a week followed by inevitably hitting the bar, all while holding down a full time job was very emotionally and physically draining. I wouldn't change it for the world -- and I am still very musically involved -- but I realized I needed to change my lifestyle in order to be my happiest, most whole self. So I did, and now I help others do the same thing in whatever way that means to them. Full circle, baby!"
ON HOLISTIC HEALTH COUNSELING: "My favorite part of health counseling is how the process evolves to meet the client's needs. We always start out talking about kale, but might end-up delving into a challenging family relationship, or their own limiting beliefs that are the REAL reason they are carrying around extra weight to protect themselves. I feel so honored to be a part of people's process of change, which I believe to be a super sacred thing and a brave thing for them to undertake."
ON HER PRODUCTS: "My favorite part of my aromatherapy line is creating all-natural things that are safe and good for people and the Earth. It gives me such a feeling of self-sufficiency and I kind of feel like I'm making magic potions, which is so fun! They are all I use on myself and I love them."
