WHAT SHE DOES FOR LOVE: I absolutely LOVE spending time in Nature. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and often find myself overwhelmed by the constant pulse of the city. I need time to turn everything off and get in touch with the moment right in front of me. I also love to volunteer! Making a difference in this world, and the bigger picture, is a very important part of my life.
HER STYLE: My biggest style evolution is learning to be comfortable in my own skin, which I find the most important beauty regimen. Working in the fashion industry as long as I have, I often feel the negative impact of not measuring up to an “ideal” beauty. I think the most beautiful thing we can do as women, is appreciate and celebrate who we are, flaws and all, and not how we look. I honestly believe beauty comes from within -- having nice hair or beautiful eyes is an added bonus.
HER 2015 GOALS: So many goals for 2015!! I want to see my career continue to grow. I want to slow down and enjoy the small moments in my day, and learn to be in the moment more.
A LADY SHE ADMIRES: My mom!
NOMINATED BY: Lina Wahlgren
WHY SHE’S A LADY GUN: "Taea is a super talented photographer who has been working her way up in a very male dominated industry. She is also one of the most generous and caring people I know!"
HER INITIAL REACTION TO HER LADY GUNS NOMINATION: Not to sound ridiculous, but it brought tears to my eyes. I've worked so hard in my career; it is so amazing to know someone thinks I am awesome!
ON WORKING IN A MALE DOMINATED INDUSTRY: When I first moved to New York, 13 years ago, there were very few female photo assistants. I felt like I had to prove I was as strong, smart, and capable as one of the "boys." Sometimes I [still] feel like I am struggling to be apart of the "boys club.” As a woman, I have to be stronger, smarter, faster to prove I deserve to be here.
ON WOMEN’S PERSPECTIVES IN FASHION AND BEAUTY: The photography industry is changing so much. It makes me elated to see more women shooting fashion. I love that females are a part of the conversation and deciding what is sexy, strong, and feminine in editorials, beauty campaigns and fashion spreads. It’s important to have that perspective!
HER FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IN NEW YORK CITY: Walking the highline to the galleries in Chelsea is a great cultural fix in the city. For an easy escape in the city, visit the Cloisters -- it’s such a special place to walk around! I also love taking the East River Ferry from Williamsburg to Brooklyn Bridge Park. In the past few years there have been so many riverside parks popping up!
HER ADVICE TO HER FELLOW LADY GUNS: Ladies, dream big! We are responsible for our destiny and there is nothing you cannot accomplish in life if you are willing to work hard, make sacrifices and stay true to who you are! Don't limit your potential [with] self-doubt.
